owi i was showing pride and he paced the whole time in the ring anyway... down to the question my farrier said that if i cant get him into a running walk that he could put some weight on the back feet and he will improve but i dont want weight on the back end and then he told me that when i rode l leaned forward to much ( i ride hunt seat too i have a walker and TB) any way i still haven't got the to question yet but hang with me ;D so he told me to lean back a use my weight to get him into a running walk instead of a pace i leaned back more and kinda hunched my shoulders forward and he went right into the running walk OK now heres my question...... *drum Roll* do you guys think that in a higher class walking horse show that the judges will take off points if i lean back or can i lean back slightly and they wont take off points???

^my thoughts exactly, but just to clarify, do u mean lean back more than ur supposed to for saddleseat or do u mean lean back more than u do for huntseat? b/c in an ss class u dont want to sit the same way u do for huntseat, sorry maybe i didntread the question closely enuff.

it doesnt make a damn how the hell you sit it the freaking saddle as long as your horse looks good as long as you arent in an equitation class..so dont worry about it..most walkers look better when you just sit back and ride and not lean forward...you let the horse go dont hold him back!

You aren't really leaning back, you are in a totally different position on the horse's back in Saddleseat. A hunt seat rider sits more forward on more on the withers and shoulder, whereas a Saddleseat rider sits up straight but farther down on the back. I guess you can lean back, I tend to just sit straight and ride how the horse feels. ;-D

i lean back on my walking/racking horses because it frees up their front end a bit and they do better..

Yeah, I do that on some of ours, it just depends on how each of our horses move. Some of the TWHs throw you back and some of them don't do much.

Wow, that's weird. Most people buy a walking horse because they have a bad back and need something smooth.

haha yeah gracie...
i know its weird...trotting horses do not hurt my backs at all but you post so i guess thats why.... its just the way the walking horse moves off of its back end that makes my back hurt...the way its turns and twists.. i dunno i cant explain it.
