What exactly is he doing? Not doing what you ask, taking advantage as in running off? Please give us some examples.

I agree, if you tell us exactly what is wrong we can narrow down the information.

Maybe you could take some lessons or get some pointers from the owner or someone that knows how to ride him correctly.

Do you think you are being forceful enough? When you work with him on the ground is he pushy? Sometimes if a horse is pushy with ground manners they are the same while being ridden. If his owner can ride him correctly and he doesn't do this to her, then why can't she show you what to do?

You need to get him to respect you while riding. If he does something he isn't supposed to, then you need to correct him and let him know that you are the boss. If he is stubborn and won't move forward or has some turning problems, carrying a whip will show him that you mean business. You may not necessarily need to use the whip, just let him see it so he knows you do have it. If he acts like he doesn't want to move forward, a little tap with the whip may encourage him. Maybe you could try having a lesson with someone else that knows what they are doing and are willing to help you ride him correctly.

Well, if he isn't working out, then I suggest looking for another horse to lease and show. It's no fun to work with and show a horse that doesn't respect you or respond to your commands.

What exactly does he do when you ride him? Is he just a stubborn horse? Does he do the same thing with other riders that he does with you?
