I use my German martingale w/ a snaffle most of the time when I ride on my own, but when I have my lessons, I ride in a full bridle. Hey you guys how many times a week do you use your double bridle because I heard that if you use it too much then your horses mouth will get too hard.

There was this one horse that came to our barn who was always ridden in the full bridle with a curb with a really high port, and his mouth was so hard that they had to put a bicycle bit on him for a while until he lightened up a bit.

i picked german martingale. thats what I ride Kappy in and he loves it. nothing else pleases him. as for double bridle..its not a good idea to use it all the time. at my barn we use our snaffle bridles the majority of the time, and the week before a show, we work our horses in the double bridle. its not good for a horse to have constantly have 2 strong bits in their mouth.

I usually ride in a snaffle with 2 reins, one thru the martingal. Or I use a draw rein. Or I use a german martingale or I use a full bridle

We use different set-ups on each horse, but we don't ride in a double bridle everyday either.

I like the effect of a longer shank, but I don't care for the look of it.
