[glow=green,2,300]I like to use draw reins when I'm riding and an open draw w/ an overcheck when I'm lining. Bitting rigs and german martingales aren't my thing.[/glow]

I like german martigales and regular split martingales. I don't use draw reins too often, but they can be very helpful.

I like german martingales and regular martingales too. When I was learning to ride Cookie (my horse) over the winter, we always used a german martingale and it helped a lot.

i just use a martingale on bella now, not anything that special....idk if its a great help in her case b/c she already uses her curb well and all so i think shed be fine in a double, but it will come in time

i prefer martingales, and i only used a german martingale with my friend's national show horse a few times. whenever misty gets sour with her pelham, i put her back into a snaffle and martingale for a couple of weeks, then she's fine.

Now that I know how to ride Cookie, all I use is a martingale, 2 reins and a mule bit.

in between shows i use a running martingale with 2 reins. but if im having really bad problems then i use draw reins. and a couple days a week i will lunge line with side checks and over checks. unlike most people i learnt to ride saddlebreds in a double bridle.

An Irish Martingale is similar to a german one, but it only has on ring on each side You can also get simple irish martingale that attaches the two reins and prevents them from being flipped over the head... www.barnstormers.co.uk/acatalog/445gsm.jpg

The irish martingale does not control the height of the horse's head, but merely keeps the reins from going over the horse's head.
