Yea, but at the corto and rack dont the legs move on the same side? ANd ashley, my TWH paces too

A lateral gait is a gait in which the legs move on the same side. The running walk and pace are lateral gaits. The thing that determines the gait is the interval of the hoof beats. Even though pace and running walk are both lateral gaits, they are very different.

yeah they arent anything alike... a running walk isnt a running walk if the horse isnt shaking its head, if you cant see the bottom of the front hooves before they hit the ground, and if they arent pushing off of their back end!! i guess a running walk is a pace but a pace isnt a running walk.....

I like the running walk better than a pace though. The only thing I ridden that paced was a standardbred and it wasn't very smooth.

It gets easier to understand once you get the hang of it. I learned it fast because my mom always relates to gaits when testing a horse for lameness and examining it.
