I keep my padded horse at a training facility call Pine Ridge Farms (located in GA).My trainer usually lets me work my padded mare for 30-45 mins. but after shows when I go to ride i just walk her around to get her out and strech her legs so we dont use her all up befor the next show.We keep our flatshod/trail pleasure horses at our house and you can work them a little longer

Generally speaking, padded and flat shod Saddlebreds are only worked for 10-20 minutes. There are some that are worked longer and benefit from that, but the general idea is to get what you want out of them and put them away. They tend to look forward to their work that way. Besides, unless there is something to be taught or fixed, doing the same thing with a horse for 40 minutes or more would probably bore them do death. Remember, horse = three second attention span.

For me, if im working with Rebel I ride for about.... 20-30 minutes... but if im going back on the trails, man i could be out there forever, lol! Specially if im riding bareback, cause then i just get off and let him eat grass while i lay there, lol. Tis fun. We dont have a lot of trails behind the barn, but enough for me and my boarders neice to run around in. In the winter tho, we will set up things for us to do inside, like we do barrels, and flag race... ball in the barrel, and some jumping. But yall were talkin bout your horses grunting, haha. Rebel will grunt before he sneezes. Haha, so we always know when he is gonna sneeze.

I love riding Misty bareback when she's barefoot, but when we put shoes on her and get her into show-horse shape . . . wow. If I rode her like that, I would get soooo sore. lol.
But for the most part, I work her for about forty mins to an hour. We're always doing equitation patterns and hitting the trails outdoors. I don't usually show equitation, but it really gets her muscles toned, puts her mind to work, and is challenging so she'll be ready for the simple stuff in a pleasure ring. It also makes us able to work for a really long time without her getting bored, which is good if we got to a really long horse show.

LOL, yeah. Misty's cute when she gets confused, too. She'll just look around for a bit and then park out. It's so funny.

I have some horses that will do that too. Macho will go sideways until he gets to a corner and then he sticks his nose in it and won't move until he is sure of what I am asking.
