I would do a lot of lunging and ground work with him at first. Take things slow and really let him get back in the swing of things. Let us know if you do get him and how everything turns out!

I would first make sure that he is safe to get on before acually getting on. when my trainer broke my horse he took a long whip and gently flicked it over his back a few times letting it touch the bottom of his stomache just to see how the horse reacts. He even put a saddle on then attached boat bouis to the stirups so the horse got a scence of what the legs would feel like. but if thats not the problem then when riding him just make sure to over exagerate a little bit. when you ask for your canter slow him up trun and use ALOT of body language to help him pick up the right lead. and make sure to have alot of pacience with him. don't work him to much because it might be hard to keep him focoused. When i ride my four year old he tends to spook at alot of things just if you know he's going to spook at something try keeping his attention on you instead of the scary thing. send him vibrations through the bridle and nudge him with your legs to keep him going forward. I hope this helps and good luck!

I would do lots of work in the bitting rig and line driving before i rode him and remind him what a show horse is like in lunge lines..like work him in whatever you work your horses in like chains and stretchers.
