an easy going horse basically, really hyper and high strung horses generally dont do good in any pleasure classes. A horse that makes his job look easy, that doesnt have its nose out in the air. Doesnt really have to have a high set head but of course it is better but its better to have a lower set head and nose in than higher set head with nose in the air.

o emily, im just out of advice, but i do have a CP rant.... ready for it? at my last show, i was in my age division CP class and there was a girl in there whos horse was all over the place, kept coming off the wall, taking off, etc, but the horse was really pretty. well, she picked up the wrong lead her second direction canter and went that way the whole time b/c she couldnt stop thehorse, the judge obviously wanted her to win b/c he watched her the whole time. anyway, he then called for a walk and a canter again and waited til she picked up the right lead then had the class line up and SHE WON!!!! not that angel was perfect, but she shouldnt have won with a horse that was so not for CP.

In horse showing, it's not what you know anymore, it's about who you know. We have some judges around here that will pick favorites and it is so unfair!

I know! Luckily, my family is kind of well known so we don't have too many troubles. I have been cheated out of some 4H awards before though.

Rider, clean and neat appearance. Always look like you are having the time of your life. Smile!! I don't care if your horse is turning sommersaults, don't forget to smile. LOL -Horse, neat turnout all bridle parts in their keepers. -Clean bridle, saddle and horse. -MANNERS!!!! -I don't care how high a horse is using it's legs, if it looks good doing it, it will do ok.

Oh please. If your horse is running away with you or being a complete donkey, don't smile. Nothing looks more fake or posed then a kid on an out of control horse with a grin plastered on their face, LOL.
I smile if I win...that's all you really are expected to do. In my opinion a natural look of concentration is WAY better than a fake or constant smile.
Otherwise, just concentrate on making your horse walk. Most excitable horses are prone to want to bounce walk down the rail...so then don't stop at the beginning or 1/2 point of a rail! Trot or canter all the way down, make your pass, and halt just before the corner. That way you'll be walking around the corner and probably onto the next rail when the canter is called.
A prettier horse will always get chances to reedeem itself, which isn't necessarily a bad thing unless it gets out of hand. Just ride smart and don't get covered, but don't ride around the center of the ring either.

Well, I didn't mean it like that! I'm just saying a fake smile looks kind of silly. If you are having a good ride, you should smile.
