I was wondering why they have green shavings/sawdust in some of the pictures I have seen of Saddlebreds. Can anyone help me? Example:

green shavings are often used at saddlebred A shows because of a lot of times the shows are indoor and that doesnt allow any grass to grow so they use green shavings instead!!

I love the green shavings!
The only place I know that has the green shavings is Louisville, the world championship horse show, for saddlebreds. The picture you are showing is from Louisville.
People who show on the green shavings for the first time often go and get some and put them in a jar or something as a memory.
I don't know the reasoning and haven't heard the grass theory, but I guess it makes sence. LOL

You might be right, they may have them at Lexington, come to think of it. I am brain dead today, long story.

They don't have the green shavings at the Lexington Jr. League show. We have some green shavings in one of the trophy cases, they are so cool!!

They use green shavings at the Royal, as well. Lexington has reddish footing.
Other breeds do this as well...Arabians have a green shavings show in Louisville I believe.
It's done for no other reason than to set it apart from other shows...sort of a tradition.
