I just ride Country Pleasure, and I was wondering what showmanship and equitation are. I've ridden in 1 equitation classs before, but it kinda confussed me. What kind of horse would be good in that class? Tempermant wise, I ride pure Arabs. I would love to get some tips, I want to ride in more classes this year! *cracks knuckles* You are talking to the queen of showmanship! lol, so lets start with that!
Showmanship is an in-hand class, meaning you dont ride the horse. Your horse wear a bridle and you complete a pattern while leading them. For Example: 3 cones in a line, stand at 1st cone, walk to 2nc cone, trot to 3rd cone and set up horse to be judged. Your horse and you should be spotless and clipped(horse, not you lol) You should do quarters(way of moving around horse accoriding to where judge is) and never take your eyes off the judge. The horse should be calm but alert. Move crisply and professionally. I guess thats just the basics..but you could do some research on the internet for more!
Equitation: Equitation is the art of horsemanshop and is judged on the riders position and ability to control the horse. As many of you know, i live in a NON Saddleseat area, so our EQ classes our very similar to hunter classes. For us, it is a normal flat class, just judged on the rider. I think EQ horses should be fairley calm to allow the rider to focus on position...People who ride in more treu SS EQ classes can add stuff....

The only thing I can think to add is that an equitation horse needs to be able to perform flawlessly. The horse must be willing and very responsive.

I show showmanhip as well. Just as a side note to everything thats been said... showmanship, unlike halter, is judged purely on the shoman and not the horses conformation etc. A good performance consists of a crisp, well executed pattern and performance by a neatly attired showman leading a healthy and happy horse ;D Feel free to Message me with any more questions

Are you prepared to take on the challenge of an unbroken horse? Arabs can show in saddlebred designated shows, but only in the open classes.

He is cute, but I also would wonder about the marks on his face. He might turn out to be a nice horse, but will require training. If you have the skill or are going to pay someone to train him, he could work out for you.

I've decided not to get him, he's a stallion which would require gelding him,he's an arab and they're usually really highstrung. That's just too much for me! Lol. So I've decided to really look into this filly! Tell me what you think of her.... agdirect.com/scripts/hrsdetl.exe?1111435714&0

she also has a short stubby straight neck, stocky chest, short legs, and not a straight tail (her tail goes down and you want it where the tail bone is straight with the back bone)

if you want a good halter prospect or whatever i reccomind a Winsdown Hi Octane horse. I haven't seen one yet that is a bad horse or doesnt have nearly perfect comforation. That particular line of breeding is bred so that the babies develope early for the weanling and yearling halter classes. what exactly are you looking for?

those pictures of the mare look like they were takin when she was a weanling/yearling. She could have matured a lot more since she is a two year old this year. If you want an equitation horse then you need to buy a horse that is already ready for equitation or pleasure. I know of a VERY cute equitation prospect. Hes a 3 yo but broke the best.
