omg chi looks SOO cute!! *sigh* so adorable
as for your form i went through and picked things out...sorry this may be long, but i want to help!
1st picture: sit up a lil taller and pull your shoulders back try to make your shoulder blades touch, bring your arms back towards your body more, you want your elbows by your side. i think your are shortening your reins to get more contact with chi's mouth and have more control, try lengthing your reins. so basically keep that pressure but lengthen your reins so you can bring your arms and elbows back. with your legs, grip with you knees more. this is a word of advice that i read that ashley gave some1 and i use it!! try to make your knee cap touch the saddle..it puts your leg in a great place. with your foot you want it parallel with chi's body, so by rolling on your knee that will help, also just keep trying to push your heel down and away.
2nd picture: the line up is 1 major place where you need your form. because if the judge sees that you dont have your form in the line up, then he will know that there is no way you can get it on the rail. so when you get into the line up some key things to do are lengthen your reins, make sure your saddle is straight, and fix your form and hold it! roll your knee on and push that heel and lower leg away. also your elbows are kinda sticking out (like a chicken, as my instructor says) so bring them back and in a lil more. also you have a lil bit of piano hands. with my hands my instructor taught me to form my "a's" your thumbs should form a narrow (maybe 35 degree angle) A, also your knuckles should form another A. another major part of equitation is your clothes should look crisp. with your tie it should be up a bit more..its kinda loose, so pull it up nice and tight. it may just be me but your jods look a lil short, they should hang about an 1inch below your boots, to help with the allusion of heels down.
but altogether i think your form has improved since the last pictures that i saw. keep up the great work!! *sorry that this was long but thats just what i saw, someone correct me if im wrong*

yea..those jods are going to be let out 2inches...we wanted to go get them done before state but we didnt get a chance...the whole thing with the reins is because if i lengthen at all...if he turns to try to spook..he has more rein than i do...like he turns his head and makes my reinds go slack..but anyway lol...Can you explain more about the "A" hands?
For me, i dunno if everybody has the same prob..i can get in the EQ pose..and be okay..but when Chi is being bad (like he was in that ring) I cant stay like that..because my balance is better when my feet are splayed and my hands need to be how they naturally are...so he doesnt run off....I try to practice at home..but i know im doing things wrong...so practicing without anybody to tell me im doing it wrong ..i feel like thats worse....i mean i can "pose" alright..seeing as i place well at shows...that is..as long as Chi is calm and doesnt decide hes scared of the judge! I dunno, what can i do?
lol...just to redeem myself...the reason my form has gone to hell in the line up pick is because they are announcing ribbons...immnot being judged anymore lol..i do keep it when they are judging, i promise!
Yea..i wanna get a new shirt..the shirt i have is too small and make it impossible to get my tie neat cuz i cant button the top buttons..so yea LOL im working on that!
I HATE the helmet too lol looks really bad *shakes fist at 4H*

ok with the "a" hands ill try to explain the best i can.
well ill just explain it like you are just sitting at your comp and practicing it.
put your hand like your holding the reins, with your thumbs on top. then with your thumbs, form an 'A', this 'A' should be about a 60 degree angle now move your hand so your knuckles are on top (only so you can see them ) now your knuckles should form another 'A' it should be about the same degree as your thumb 'A' then bring it so your thumbs are back ontop and that is 'A' hands.
if you still dont get it, i could take picture and send them...and i just want to give you props because for having no instructor you have ok form..better than alot of people (who have trainers) that i have seen!

awww, chi looks adorable! i understand the issue with shortening/legenthing your reins. my mare still is the same way, but i've figured out how to maintain my control with longer reins. just takes A LOT of practice; even then, all horses are different. kkmhorseluva has really good tips that i agree with, too.
yeah, our 4-h has the same rule. derby while your showing at hand, helmet is a must when you ride. i myself think it should be a choice for the rider/parents.
keep up the hard work!

lol, yeah, it kinda does. i try to avoid putting my hands right in front of me, but those judges come down so hard on us about it. but it does look so unnatural and dumb; i guess thats why i love pleasure so much.

Troxel just came out with a helmet derby. They have an article/ad about it in Horse Illustrated. You should check it out, you can barely tell that it is a helmet.
